Sally Lloyd

Exterior Squamous Cell Cancer

For almost 2 years Sally thought she had hemorrhoids. She was in a great amount of pain, which made her absolutely miserable. Her referring physician ordered every test under the sun – PET, CT, CAT etc. Come to find out her pain was not from hemorrhoids, it was from cancer! Shortly after, she was diagnosed with “Exterior Squamous Cell Cancer”, a cancer of the pelvis.

Sally went to see Dr. Jain in June 2012 where she was treated with Chemotherapy later that month. She also endured 36 rounds of radiation treatments at ABCC. “ABCC is such a wonderful place and they did an amazing job. You get a sense of intimacy at ABCC when you’re going through such a difficult time in your life. It’s really the perfect setting. I enjoyed being in the waiting room with other patients because it gave me a chance to share tips and tricks with this disease, hopefully making a difference in someone else’s life. Most importantly, when I was at the hospital Dr. Jain came to visit me at 11 o’clock at night! For your doctor to visit you so late, it made me feel so wonderful because he didn’t have to.”

Sally also spoke highly of 2 specific employees at ABCC, Tyler (radiation tech) and Michelle (chemo nurse). Tyler made Sally feel so comfortable while she was going through her radiation treatments and thanks him for it because the cancer was in a difficult part of her body. When she started chemo, Sally didn’t know that normally you will most likely have some side effects. “The first time I had the treatment, I had no side effects at all! When I came in for my second treatment it was a different story. Michelle said to me ‘We all thought you were wonder woman, glad to know you’re really human after all!’” That remark from Michelle brightened up Sally’s day.

These days Sally is back to working full time. She works at Walmart as a Market Manager. “So many people ask me about my experience with cancer. I am ABCC’s best publicity because I am glad to talk to anyone about my journey with their center.”
